Maeve Binchy once again brings us an enchanting book full of the wit, warmth, and wisdom that have made her one of the most beloved and widely read writers at work today. When a new highway threatens to bypass the town of Rossmore and cut through Whitethorn Woods, everyone has a passionate opinion about whether the town will benefit or suffer/5().

Her last book before this one, The Night of Rain and Stars, didn't touch me as much as her previous books did, which is why I am so thrilled to report that Maeve Binchy's work on Whitethorn Woods is back to its previous high standards.

I loved every bit of this charming audio book, and wished there was more. But wait, there was supposed to be!/5(). Whitethorn Woods book.

Read 1, reviews from the world's largest community for readers. When a new highway threatens to bypass the town of Rossmore and /5(K). “WHITETHORN WOODS is Binchy’s best read in a decade Few contemporary novelists match Binchy’s gift for giving us the world through her characters’ eyes.” –The Globe and Mail (Toronto) Maeve Binchy once again brings us an enchanting book full of the wit, warmth, and wisdom that have made her one of the most beloved and widely.

Whitethorn Woods is the next chapter in the narrative of this ever-evolving land and takes us on a wonderful journey into the lives of the citizens and visitors to the towns of Rossmore and Doon.

Binchy's initial premise: The consequences of building a new highway through Whitethorn Woods, bypassing the town of Rossmore, and destroying St. Ann 5/5(5). The introduction, questions, and suggestions for further reading that follow are designed to enrich your discussion of Maeve Binchy’s Whitethorn Woods.

In this enchanting new book, Binchy portrays a diverse group of characters and their ties, lifelong or fleeting, to a small Irish town and its famous shrine, St.

Ann’s Well. /5(65). Book Reviews A proposed highway near the Irish town of Rossmore will mean the destruction of St. Ann's Well, a shrine in Whitethorn Woods thought to deliver healing, husbands and other miracles.

The shrine resides in the parish of Fr. Brian Flynn, curate of St. Augustine's. Whitethorn Woods This book felt like some short stories very loosely pulled together. This NOT Ms. Binchey's best work. 2 people found this helpful Overall 5 out of 5 stars. Cindy; Love the narrators.

As some other reviewers have indicated, this is a very different style for Binchy, which makes it a little more difficult to follow, but. Binchy (Quentins, etc.) inserts questions of faith into her usual romantic braid of multiple storylines, in this case concerning the troubled residents, former residents and descendents of residents of an Irish town where an obscure shrine faces Brian Flynn, his commitment to the priesthood already shaky, is furious at the superstitious faith people place.
